HF - Overgrown river trestle

A second set of ruined pillars in Harper's Ferry runs at a right angle to the previously posted group. Whereas those bore mostly evergreens, these are mainly populated by deciduous scrub trees and driftwood. If there was one thing I really liked about Harper's Ferry, it was the stuff like this which hadn't been fixed and dressed up for the tourists. It's a manmade relic which has been partially reclaimed by nature, but is still holding up after all this time as a testament to human craftsmanship. Its presence allows us to stand amidst the faux-period folk and tourist shlock to marvel both at nature's splendor and a genuine artifact of a bygone age.



Or it could just be there for people to ignore as they float by on their inner tubes, drunk out of their minds. Whichever.
