Artist's Comments

Finally, here we have an arctic fox in the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. I hopped the little fence outside of its cage and got up against the mesh to take its picture, and the little ball of fuzz came right up to me and cheerily investigated me in a similar manner, enabling one of those 'Zen connection with nature' moments.

I do requests now, so if you want one, just see, comment on my gallery, and tell me if you want one! :D

Just because I leave near the gringo, doesn't mean I'm a gringo, so that still makes me a mexican, OK?!... VIVA MEXICO, CABRONES!!!

are you sure it is a polar fox? :D I think it may be some colour variant of a red fox :D

very very nice shot :aww:

Yeah, it is a bit unusual for an Arctic, isn't it? Despite the somewhat uncharacteristic face and ears, this lady or fellow was in the duly plaqued Arctic Fox cage, was smaller than a Red Fox would normally be, and because this was taken in the summer the coat wouldn't have been at its peak fluffiness which may have made it look a bit atypical.

Of course, given the quality of zoo employees at this place, you might be right and the folks just placed it in the polar area because it was white... XD

thank you for so detailed answer :D maybe there could be some cross-breading, but looking at this wonderful creature again, I still think it some rarer colour form of red fox  I have completely black red fox in my gallery, for example.

But arctic or not, it is still amazing beautiful animal and perfect shot! congrat

Whether it is an arctic fox or a red fox, that is some pretty strange coloration. :hmm:

By saying that you are afraid of the wolves, you admit to being a sheep.

you really sure that this is an arctic fox? to me it looks like a marble fox, what is a color phase of the red fox only bred as pets or in fur farms.
look here: [link] or the one in my ava (same fox) and compare your fox with mine and the polar foxes in Woxys' gallery, marble (red) foxes got a longer head and larger ears and a different body build, only polar foxes change their fur color in summer/winter marbles don't.

no matter what species, he is a nice looking fox

ever seen a happy living Marblefox? [link]

Petard? when this means I am opposed of killing animals for fun, I am proud to be one

I'm amazed that the taxonomy of this animal is so controversial. XD

even though it may be smaller and was in an arctic fox cage and so on - it actually IS a red fox ;) you can tell this alone by its facial features, which is absolutely red fox-like. no real arctic fox has such large ears - for a good reason :)

the atypical features - like a smaller built, thicker coat and so on - are actually common for those color morphes. especially since marble foxes are breedings from fox fur farms :)
